Nestled among rolling hills and serene ponds in Bad Birnbach, Bavaria, Hofgut Hafnerleiten is a unique destination where culinary tradition and modern design converge. Since opening the region’s first cooking school in 1999, the estate has evolved with care and creativity. In 2019, Derenko partnered with Mang Architekten to design a striking new annex – one that blends seamlessly with the surrounding landscape while introducing a bold architectural language.

Inside, raw stone walls, warm wood accents, exposed concrete, and terrazzo flooring create a refined yet grounded atmosphere. The centerpiece of the interior is a large communal table – a space for guests, neighbors, and the host himself to gather and connect.

At night, artistic bird-shaped lights gently illuminate the space, adding a touch of romance to the architectural clarity. The annex’s sculptural form and use of natural materials make it feel like it has always belonged to the site.

Hofgut Hafnerleiten is more than a retreat. It is an experience designed with intention – where hospitality, design, and nature exist in perfect balance.
