The Wirtshaus Pistauer was redesigned by us with great sensitivity – with the aim of preserving its traditional charm while creating a timeless, cozy atmosphere. The result is a place that feels authentic, regionally rooted, yet interpreted in a modern way – a space that welcomes locals and tourists, families and groups alike.
The design concept combines warm, intentionally darker wood tones set in contrast to lighter wall and ceiling colors. A muted, traditional color scheme provides a sense of consistency and calm, while modern accents, such as the unique flooring pattern, add a strong, striking element. Gray-and-white checkered tile floors alternate with oiled wooden planks, clearly defining the different room zones without disrupting the overall impression.
Particular attention was given to the wall design, featuring black-and-white photographs that highlight the local connection to the district. The combination of classic inn chairs and comfortable benches conveys familiarity, while the indirect lighting, together with elegant fabric-covered pendant lights, creates a warm atmosphere.
It is the loving details that make the Wirtshaus Pistauer a place where guests immediately feel welcome.
With this project, Derenko has succeeded in reviving a piece of Austrian dining culture – cozy, stylish, and with a clear focus on functional interior design for modern hospitality.
