At Das Johann’s in Lower Austria, the traditional village inn has been reinterpreted with a holistic interior and branding concept developed by Derenko. The historic inn was modernized, expanded, and stylistically recharged – without losing its authentic roots.
At the heart of this new gastronomic experience is the openly integrated pizza oven. It offers guests a direct view into the craftsmanship of cooking and serves as the spatial centerpiece. The kitchen becomes visible and approachable – authenticity becomes the guiding design principle.
Exposed brick walls, wooden paneling, and dark acoustic ceilings create warmth and character. Delicate pendant lights and clear spatial zoning organize the expansive dining area. A long bar with glossy green-glazed tile cladding and backlit shelving invites guests to enjoy an aperitivo or quick espresso in a relaxed bar atmosphere.
Flexible seating arrangements – from high tables and upholstered benches to large communal tables – allow for maximum versatility. Green wall panels, decorative plant islands, and bold graphic artwork inject modern accents throughout the space. The new brand identity appears subtly yet confidently: the neon "Johann’s" sign on an exposed brick wall becomes a visual statement.
The entrance and waiting areas were also carefully designed, with intentional sightlines, tactile materials, and decorative accessories that tell stories of heritage and continuity. The result is a unique spatial experience that balances local tradition with contemporary lifestyle – crafted by Derenko.
